I think there is a lot of pressure on teenagers these days;
To do well in exams, to be funny, to look a certain way, to not stand out, to fit in, to make people happy one hundred percent of the time... And there's probably a lot more things too. But the point I want to make is that we can't always be every one's idea of perfect. We shouldn't have to try to even be that anyway because we are all different - we've been told it since we were in lower school and it still hasn't seemed to sink in for some people.
Everyone is wonderful in their own way maybe it's because they are a good listener, can make people laugh effortlessly, that they are always there for you, are incredibly clever - the list goes on.
If anything we should all want to be different because after all, who wants to be known as a clone. If someone doesn't like you for you then they aren't worth waiting for or even wasting your mind over. They can live on excluding people from their lives. That's their choice. It doesn't mean you are any less beautiful, lovely or interesting. It's just that they didn't want to spend the time to know you for being you. Nerd, or otherwise.

Try telling this to the plastics:|
ReplyDeleteThis is why I'm so excited about doing physcology, because there's a lot of interseting questions to do with this, like why is it always expected of you to fit in, and more importantly, why do people feel the need to be the same as everyone else? I suppose in some ways it's an evolutionary thing- sticking with the croud leads you to trouble, having a certain image is more likely to get you a "mate" and althought these things are kind of from the stone age, I think there's a part of our brain that's stored them somewhere. But as times have changed, these instincs become invalid, and some people are better at controlling them that others.
Evanna Lynch did quite an interesting article that was about this, I'll see if I can find it:)
Indeeedy! :)
ReplyDeleteDoes sound interesting.
The topic of this just popped into my head and I decided it would be quite a good thing to write about as it is current but also part of history aswell?
Let me know if you find it :)!
